Our story

Family-owned and operated at Lakeland Linder International Airport since 1989.

Legends has been around since 1989, and in that time we have built an enduring community of senior flight instructors and seasoned aviators ready to guide you. Three generations of aviators welcome students to our flight line.

We get to know every student on a personal level. No student is a number: you get one-on-one instructor pairing tailored to your goals and pace, and direct access to the owners if you ever have an issue.

We specialize in producing safe, responsible and professional pilots who meet and exceed FAA standards. Training at Lakeland Linder (KLAL) means flying in active controlled airspace with a control tower and commercial jet traffic, in Central Florida weather that allows flying year-round — and tailwheel and spin training build true stick-and-rudder airmanship.

Why train here

  • Uncompromised airworthiness

With deep roots in aircraft maintenance, our airplanes get rigorous 100-hour inspections and preventative care. Safety is not a buzzword here — it is our promise.

  • One-on-one, start to finish

Every student is paired with an instructor matched to their goals and pace, following the Gleim syllabus — including 20 hours of one-on-one ground school for the Private Pilot.

  • Instructors who care

Senior flight instructors and seasoned aviators who genuinely care about your progress. And if you ever have an issue, you can reach the owners directly.

  • A family legacy since 1989

Three generations of aviators, a Super Cub for real tailwheel training, and Florida weather that means lots of flying days — with checkride waits typically under two weeks.

Central Florida

Florida flies year-round.

Lots of flying days means fewer cancelled lessons, steady progress, and checkride waits that are typically under two weeks.

Tools that match the standard

Six airplanes. One of them has a tailwheel.

Training across high-wing Cessnas, a glass-cockpit LSA and a tailwheel Cub builds a more adaptable pilot. Every aircraft except the Super Cub is available for rental, and you pay as you go, with no contract and no lump sum.
